Technical drawings in one click: views, dimensions, PDF

You have modelled the part; now you want to show it on paper to the workshop, a customer or a teacher. In SelviCAD you do not draw it again: you press Teknik Resim (Technical Drawing), and the views, centre lines, dimensions, hole callouts and title block appear on their own. You choose the paper and save as PDF or DXF.

About the language: SelviCAD's interface is in Turkish today; an English UI is coming soon. Menu and button names are written in Turkish as they appear on screen, with the English meaning in brackets.

Before you start

A technical drawing comes from a part (or an assembly); you do not draw it separately. The views, dimensions and centre lines are read from the model itself. So model and dimension the part first; instead of changing a dimension on the drawing, change it on the part and refresh the drawing.

To try it, open Dosya → Örnekler → İşlenmiş flanş (teknik resimli) (File → Examples → Machined flange, with drawing): a Ø120 flange with 6 bolt holes, a hub, chamfers and fillets; its drawing comes ready.

Step by step

  1. Open Teknik Resim

On the Hesapla (Evaluate) tab, press Teknik Resim; or choose Dosya → Parçadan teknik resim oluştur. The program switches to the drawing workspace: the settings panel on the left, the paper in the middle. It calculates and places the views itself.

  2. Choose the paper and scale

In the Kağıt (Paper) section, choose the size (A4 to A0; A3 at first). If the scale stays at “Otomatik” (automatic), a scale that fits the part on the paper is chosen; you can also pick one yourself, such as 1:2 or 2:1. The projection method starts at first angle (ISO); switch to third angle if you use ANSI.

  3. Choose the views

Tick the views you want: Ön, Üst, Sol, Sağ, Alt, Arka and İzometrik (front, top, left, right, bottom, back and isometric). Front, top, left and isometric are on at first.

  4. Add a section

Pick a direction for the quick section A-A: a full section through the middle of the part is added as a new view. To choose the cutting line yourself, use the Kesit Görünüşü (Section View) tool on the ribbon.

  5. Check the dimensions

With “Otomatik ölçülendirme” (automatic dimensioning) on, dimensions are placed on the drawing by themselves; holes and cylinders also get centre marks. If a dimension is missing, add it with Akıllı Ölçü (Smart Dimension). You can hide an automatic dimension you do not want and bring hidden ones back with “Gizlenen otomatik ölçüleri göster” (show hidden automatic dimensions).

  6. Fill in the title block

In the Antet (Title block) section, enter the title (the part name if left empty), drawing number, material, drawn by and company; the Firma (Company) field says SelviCAD at first, so enter your own company name. The general tolerance starts at ISO 2768-m; you can also fill in the general surface roughness (Ra) and the revision table.

  7. Save as PDF or DXF

Press PDF Kaydet (Save PDF) on the ribbon: the PDF is at true paper size and contains all sheets. For laser cutting or another CAD program, use DXF Kaydet (Save DXF).

  8. Return to the model

Press the green ✓ or Modele Dön (Back to model). Your drawing settings are saved with the part. If you change the part, open the drawing again and press Yenile (Refresh).

Flange: section A-A, front and top views, isometric and title block.

The sections of the left panel are:

SectionWhat you set
Kağıt (Paper)Size (A4, A3, A2, A1, A0), portrait paper, scale (automatic or e.g. 1:2, 2:1), projection method: first angle (ISO) or third angle (ANSI)
Görünüşler (Views)Front, top, left, right, bottom, back, isometric; front, top, left and isometric are on at first
Kesit görünüşü (Section view)Quick section A-A: a full section through the middle of the part, from the direction you choose, is added as a new view
Gösterim (Display)Hidden lines (dashed), tangent edges, axis lines and centre marks, automatic dimensioning
Antet (Title block)Title, drawing number, material, drawn by, company, general tolerance (ISO 2768-m), revision, general surface roughness (Ra)
Dışa aktar (Export)PDF, DXF, SVG

As you change the paper size and scale, the views are re-arranged. If views touch each other or do not fit on the paper, try larger paper, a smaller scale (such as 1:2) or fewer views.

Tools on the ribbon

In the drawing workspace the ribbon has three tabs: Görünüş Yerleşimi (View Layout), Açıklama (Annotation) and Dışa Aktar (Export). You enrich the views with sections and details and complete them with dimensions and notes.

ToolWhat it does
Kesit Görünüşü (Section View)You pick a line or point on the parent view; the section is added as a separate, aligned view (A-A, with an arrowed cutting line)
Yarım Kesit (Half Section)On a symmetric part, one half is shown in section and the other from outside
Bölgesel Kesit (Broken-out Section)You draw a region on the view with a closed curve; that region is cut to a given depth, and what is beneath is shown and hatched
Detay Görünüşü (Detail View)You pick an area with a circle and it is shown enlarged (e.g. DETAY B 2:1)
Yardımcı Görünüş (Auxiliary View)A view looking square onto an inclined or straight edge; you pick the edge
İzdüşüm Görünüşü (Projected View)Creates a new view above, below, right or left of an existing view
Kırık Görünüş (Break View)Removes the middle of a long part; dimensions still show the true length
Akıllı Ölçü (Smart Dimension)Pick an edge, circle, two points or two edges and place a dimension; tolerances and fits (H7/g6) can be added
Not · Yüzey İşareti · Geometrik ToleransText or leader note; surface roughness (Ra, ISO 1302); frames for flatness, perpendicularity, position and so on (ISO 1101)
Balon · Merkez İşareti · Merkez Çizgisi · ReferansBalloon that numbers the part; cross at a circle centre; axis line between two points; datum letter
Kaynak Sembolü (Weld Symbol)ISO 2553: fillet or butt, size, length, all-around, field weld
Sayfa Ekle · Yenile · SığdırAdds a sheet to the drawing (shared title block); rebuilds the views from the model; fits the paper to the window

PDF, DXF and printing

ButtonWhat you get
PDF Kaydet (Save PDF)A PDF at true paper size; all sheets in one file
DXF Kaydet (Save DXF)Layered DXF (of the sheet that is open); for laser cutting or for opening in another CAD program
SVG Kaydet (Save SVG)Vector image (of the sheet that is open)
Yazdır (Print)Opens the PDF; choose actual size as the scale when printing

When printing: set the scale to “actual size” (100%), not “fit to page”. The PDF is at true paper size, so the dimensions come out exact on paper.

Sheet metal, weldment and assembly drawings

  • Sheet metal part. Tick “Açınım görünüşü (bükme çizgileri ve notları)” (flat pattern view, with bend lines and notes) and the flat state of the part is added to the drawing. Details in the sheet metal flat pattern guide.
  • Welded frame. The cut list table and numbered balloons are added to the drawing; “Lazer Sayfaları” (laser sheets) draws each laser part on its own sheet with its quantity; “Dikişlere kaynak sembolü öner” (suggest weld symbols) places symbols on the welds.
  • Assembly. The Teknik Resim button on the Montaj (Assembly) tab opens an assembly drawing: views, a parts list (item, part, quantity) and balloons. Balloon numbers come from the parts list and update when the assembly changes.

Frequently asked questions

In which formats do I get the technical drawing?

PDF and DXF, plus SVG. Paper sizes from A4 to A0, automatic or chosen scale. For weldments, the cut list table and part numbers are included too.

How do I change a dimension on the drawing?

Dimensions come from the model: to change a number, change the dimension in the part's sketch or feature, then press Yenile (Refresh) on the drawing. You can add a missing dimension with Akıllı Ölçü and hide an automatic dimension you do not need.

Which projection method should I choose?

First angle (ISO) comes first; it is the standard method in Turkey and Europe. If a customer asks for ANSI, switch to third angle in the paper section.

Can a part have more than one sheet?

Yes. Sayfa Ekle (Add Sheet) adds a sheet; the title block is shared by all sheets. The PDF gives all sheets in one file; the DXF gives the sheet that is open.

Can I open the DXF in another program?

The DXF is layered; it is a format that laser and CNC programs and most CAD programs open.
